Hurricane Beryl hits Caribbean, killing at least nine people

On July 3rd, local time, Hurricane Beryl weakened from a Category 5 hurricane to a Category 4 hurricane, but it still caused serious impacts on the transit areas. The National Hurricane Center of the United States said that heavy rains caused life-threatening floods and mudslides in most parts of Jamaica and southern Haiti. Previously, Hurricane Beryl had caused flooding in Sucre State in northeastern Venezuela. The death toll has now risen to 3, and 4 people are still missing. The heavy rains brought by the hurricane damaged more than 8,000 houses, of which more than 400 houses were completely destroyed. Some senior officials, including Venezuelan Vice President Rodriguez, were also injured while inspecting the disaster area. In Grenada, the hurricane caused a large-scale power outage and interruption of telecommunications services across the island, damaged a large number of houses, and caused at least three deaths. The US National Hurricane Center issued a warning that Hurricane Beryl will land on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico as early as the evening of the 4th local time, and will then affect the Mexican coast including the tourist city of Cancun and the southern coastal areas of Texas in the United States.
