Trump signs executive order pardoning participants in Capitol Hill riot

Washington, January 20, US President Trump signed an executive order on the 20th to pardon about 1,500 participants in the “Capitol Hill Riots” and commute the sentences of 14 participants in the “Capitol Hill Riots”. In the executive order, Trump instructed the Attorney General to immediately implement the executive order to ensure the immediate release of the pardoned persons in custody. US media reported that the pardoned persons included participants in the riots who were charged with inciting rebellion and assaulting police officers. Former US House Speaker and Democrat Pelosi said on the same day that Trump’s behavior was “shameful” and “a shameless insult to the judicial system.” After Trump failed to win re-election in 2020, he claimed that there was “massive fraud” in the election. On January 6, 2021, a large number of Trump supporters broke into Congress and interrupted the joint meeting of the Senate and House of Representatives to certify that Democrat Biden won the presidential election. The riots resulted in 5 deaths, hundreds of police injuries and millions of dollars in property losses. Before taking office, Trump promised to pardon participants in the “Capitol Hill Riots” on his first day in office.
