The Associated Press reported that the preliminary value of the University of Michigan Consumer Confidence Index released on the 12th fell from 79.4 in March to 77.9 in April. It is between the historical low (when inflation peaked in June 2022) and the pre-epidemic average. The survey has been conducted since 1980. Among the respondents, Republicans’ confidence fell the most. The confidence of independents has declined, and the confidence of Democrats has risen slightly. In recent decades, Americans’ economic views have been more influenced by political parties.
