Biden condemns anti-Semitism: ‘America is not a lawless country’
At the same time as Biden’s speech, the US government also announced the latest measures to combat anti-Semitism on campus and elsewhere; the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights today sent guidance letters to universities, explaining cases of anti-Semitism that may lead to violations of civil rights laws and thus be investigated. In addition, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security revealed resources to campuses to promote security and respond to threats. The U.S. State Department’s special envoy to combat anti-Semitism met with technology companies to discuss how to deal with the intensification of online hate conflicts. The United States will hold a presidential election this year. Campus demonstrations pose a challenge to Biden’s election prospects. Many young voters criticized him for openly supporting Israel. In his speech today, he did not mention that the Israeli-Palestinian war caused the deaths of more than 30,000 Palestinians, which once again aroused the dissatisfaction of Arab Americans and Palestinians.
