On December 5, local time, a shooting occurred at a small school in the north of Sacramento, the capital of California, injuring two young children, aged 5 and 6. The two have been sent to a local hospital for treatment and are currently in critical condition. It is reported that the school where the shooting occurred is a private school that offers courses from kindergarten to eighth grade and has about 35 students. The police said that there is not enough information to determine whether this is a hate crime. Investigators found that there was no connection between the victims and the suspect had no previous contact with the school. Local police said that the suspect in the case had died on the spot and was suspected of suicide. The police have identified the suspect, but because the FBI’s assisted investigation is still ongoing, the suspect’s name cannot be released immediately. According to media statistics, at least 78 school shootings have occurred in the United States so far in 2024.
