Death toll from US airstrikes on Yemen’s Houthis rises to 53

The Yemeni Houthi armed forces issued a statement on the 16th saying that the US military’s air strikes on Yemen since the 15th have killed 53 people and injured 98 others. The statement said that the death toll from the US air strikes has risen to 53, including 5 children and 2 women, and the number of injured has reached 98. The air strikes also caused damage to residents’ property and public facilities. What the US military did is “an outright war crime against humanity” and a blatant violation of Yemen’s sovereignty. According to the Masirah TV station controlled by the Houthi armed forces on the same day, the “Galaxy Leader” cargo ship, which was previously detained by the Houthi armed forces in the waters of the Red Sea, was bombed by the US military. In November 2023, the Houthi armed forces announced that they had detained the “Galaxy Leader” cargo ship in the waters of the Red Sea, claiming that the ship belonged to Israel. According to Masirah TV on January 22 this year, the Houthi armed forces have released the detained crew of the cargo ship. The United States began a large-scale military operation against the Houthi armed forces on the 15th. According to Masirah TV on the 16th, the US military has launched at least 47 air strikes on Yemen since the 15th, attacking the capital Sanaa and seven other provinces, causing many civilian casualties.
